An intimate wedding reception dinner for a couple who skipped the large wedding, covered start to finish by one photographer.
The ask
Capture the reception as it actually happened. The greetings at the door, the conversations across the table, the reactions between courses. Emotion over arrangement.
The approach
I worked the room the way a documentary shoot works. A single zoom lens so I could move from a full table to a close reaction without changing glass or breaking the moment, and natural light throughout, so nothing about the room had to change because I was in it. I stayed on the edges and let people forget I was there.
The challenge
A full room, one shooter, and no second angle to fall back on. Every moment had to be read before it happened rather than chased after it did. I positioned myself ahead of the arrivals and the toasts instead of reacting to them, and worked table to table in between, so every guest is somewhere in the gallery.
The outcome
Complete coverage of the reception from a single camera, following the meal from the first greeting to the last table, with the emotion they asked for intact.
Presence was the brief. The gallery is what the day looked like from inside it.
