Zehra on Campus

The ask

Capture her final days as a student at the places that meant the most, not a cap and gown against a backdrop, but a record of the four years underneath it.

The approach

We mapped the route before we shot it, ordering locations by where the sun would be rather than by what was convenient. At each stop I shot two ways: directed portraits, then the in between, walking, laughing, taking it all in.

The challenge

Fixed locations and harsh, uncontrollable midday light. I used the sun as a backlight and exposed for her face instead of the sky, pulled into open shade wherever the buildings offered it, and saved the stops that carried the most meaning for the last hour of usable light.

The outcome

A gallery that works as a portrait set and as a map, every frame tied to a place she chose herself.

Graduation photos usually mark the date. These mark the four years that earned it.
